What's the most efficient way to learn to read and write Simplified characters?

Hey guys, my speaking is far stronger than my reading (which is stronger than my writing), so I want to improve the latter two skills. At the moment, I can recognize most of the HSK 1 and 2 Characters, and write some of them. However, I feel that there must be a better way of learning than just writing and rewriting characters. Can anyone help me?
