Traditional characters for Buddhism and gay-friendly Taiwan, or simplified for friends and materials?

你好,reddit!I recently started learning Mandarin and I've been doing traditional characters because I'm gay, vegetarian, and a Buddhist and thought Taipei would be the most logical place for me to visit if I ever traveled that way. Also I just think the characters are beautiful and meaningful and if I want to read older works or religious material it would be more readily available in 繁體字.

However, the few other learners I know where I live (明尼蘇達 peep the username lol) use simplified including a couple friends of mine. Also every book in the local bookstore is in simplified.

Should I stick to trad for the linguistic and cultural interest I have in them or switch to simp for the ease of practice and materials? I appreciate your opinions!
