Can I drop here?

In this sentence 与我意中人儿紧相随 I don't know what 儿 mean? If I remove it, is the meaning the same? And what 紧相随 mean? Are all of 3 together redundant (Isn't one or two words enough)?

It's lyrics from the song named 女儿情.
