On YouTube, there are quite a few second-language speakers, ranging from not-so-fluent to very fluent, and many of them are guys. There are a few women doing these shows, showing off their skills or study habits, but the men are overwhelming. Maybe YouTube is not representative. It is possible that women are just not interested in showing off in front of the camera for the world to see. After all, after doing a quick Google search, I have discovered that women outnumber men in the study of foreign languages. Okay... apparently, YouTube is biased then. Maybe men who study Chinese are just more likely to start up YouTube channels?
Some of you may be second-language learners taking Chinese in the classroom. Do you take into account of how many male and female students in the classroom?
