Question about Chinese foreign language classes in university

So, in order to be accepted to this one college I want to go to, you have to take two semesters of (the same) foreign language class during high school, then you take a third at the university as part of the general education requirements. I've always been interested in Asian culture and all, so when my high school decided to start offering a Chinese class this year, I decided to take it, both because I've always wanted to learn the language and because I wanted to go ahead and get the credits I'll need. It's been alright so far, but my only problem is there doesn't seem to be any sort of set curriculum or anything like that. I don't know how much I should know when I go into the university, because you also have to take a placement test, just so they know you've actually learned a good bit of the language. For those of you who have taken Chinese courses in university or high school (or, honestly, anyone who has a good amount of knowledge of language learning and Chinese), how much should you know after two semesters of a Chinese class? What about one? If you could give me some sort of set vocabulary list, that would be amazing. I've been using the HSK vocab lists as a sort of guide (along with the study sets we got in class), but I feel like there's some necessary words missing. I'm really OCD with this sorta stuff, I enjoy having a set list of words that I'm supposed to learn one at a time rather than going out and finding words myself and adding them whenever I feel like it.
