I'm completely lost trying to learn Mandarin!
大家好! I actually wanted to post this question to Quora, but I just noticed that they removed the detail feature, which is why I have to annoy you guys now.
I've been fascinated by the Chinese culture since I was very young, in 2011 (I was 13 back then) I tried getting into learning Chinese Mandarin but I was very unfocused and had no idea how to teach myself a language. The years passed with an on-and-off relationship with Chinese, but those periods always ended with me being frustrated that I still understand so little (in comparison to English, French and Russian, none of which were my native language but in all of which I made constant progress). I tried being a little more focused in the last few years, but I still lack the long-term motivation. I can recognize and read the HSK 1 and HSK 2 vocabulary by now, but I'm pretty much still deaf to spoken Chinese. I started going to university last year and found an exchange student from China who wanted to help me out, but whenever she tried to speak in Chinese to me, it felt like her words bounced right off of my ears, as if they didn't even enter my head. The first time we met, it was in autumn and I had pretty short clothes on, it took me forever to realize the first thing she said to me was "你不冷吗?", which obviously is such a simple sentence. I feel like, unlike with other languages I learned, my reading comprehension and listening comprehension are extremely out of sync. It's also very hard for me to get into a language course at university, since it somehow always interferes with my schedule. I just don't know where to go from here. I'm really frustrated because I have so much love for the culture itself. Do you have any books, websites or online courses you can recommend? Or is there a specific learning method I should try?

A few questions from a beginning Chinese learner
Hi friends, do you know some good anki decks a beginner can learn simplified Chinese from? The decks I've been using can really be inconsistent in difficulty and easiness and sometimes show like 10 different meanings of one character. I feel like I have completed HSK 1 and I'm doing HSK 2 now. Also, does writing the characters down in a notebook and learning actively work better than passively, like trying to recognize it? What has your experience been with this? And how long did you guys do over getting to HSK 5 or to get the feeling that you have accomplished something with all the work you have put in Chinese?
Those are a lot a questions in one post, sorry for any inconvenience. (Also, I didn't know what flair to use for this type of post)
Any help is appreciated!
