Simplified vs Traditional

Hello All,

I am learning Chinese (Mandarin) and I am stuck deciding between simplified and traditional characters. My primary motivation behind learning Chinese is that I am looking to work in the international computer science market and would like to read the PRC papers for research on machine learning. However, I have a big interest in other Asian countries and it seems that I can be greatly benefited by learning the traditional set. Is there that big a difference between the two? Is it hard to learn one after the other? Should I just change to traditional now and deal with it?
