Hello r/ChineseLanguage ! English speaking person here. I am dating a girl who is originally from China, and was adopted to america at a young age. Her original name was "Meiying". She says that it is from a cantanese dialect and means "olive head." Now, I fully believe her of course, but I was playing around with google translate and it says "meiying" could mean "phantom". After searching further I see that it could mean "cherry blossom", or even "brave hero". So I am here to ask you if you know what dialect that "Meiying" may mean "olive head?" Because I know she probably wasn't just lied to her whole life, but now I am very curious to learn more. Any information to help me better understand this would be greatly appreciated.
