How did you guys overcome directly translating from English to Chinese?

I've been studying this language for a year and I STILL revert to directly translating from English to Chinese.

I.E. 我剪了我的头发. Instead of 我把头发剪了.

​

I know this is an extremely simple example, but you get my point. Did y'all use a certain resource or method that especially you overcome this issue?
