在...之前 grammar structure

Hello,

​

I am looking for ways to say something like:

​

"Before doing that, I will do this"

"Before going on vacation, I will clean the house"

​

When using the translators, they all use this structure 在...之前, however, I can't find even ONE resource online that explains how this structure works and why that 在 is there at the beginning.

​

Can someone explain?
