I've been studying Chinese for a while, and figured I should choose a Chinese name.
There is no equivalent of my surname Eagan (Reagan without the Republican), so I took the last sound gan and got 趕 (gǎn), meaning to pursue, expel.
My given name John has the Chinese 約翰, but I don't like the pronunciation of that 翰. I also don't like the first character and the pronunciation of my nickname Jack 傑克.
So I created three possibilities.
- 假剋 (jiǎkè) with the meaning of subduing evil.
- 天喣 (tiānxù) with the meaning of heaven is gracious, created using the original meaning of John, but with heaven instead of god.
- 約剋 (yuēkè) taking the first character of 約翰 which I like and a variety of 克 which I find more pleasing to the eye.
This leaves me with 趕假剋, 趕天喣 or 趕約剋. Are any of these good enough Chinese names that I won't get laughed at, or should I go back to the drawing board?
