Chinese Name Help?

Hello, I know very little about Chinese but I have a character with a Chinese name and I just want to be sure I'm spelling and pronouncing it correctly. His name is Liu-liang but I've been conflicted on how I right it. I swore I saw it somewhere with the hyphen but I've also seen it as just Liu Liang. Which is right? Or are they both okay? And what are the meaning of the words? Thanks in advance for any help in this matter. :)
