Advice for aspiring Chinese teacher (non-chinese)?

Dear reddit, I’m posting here to ask you to help me assess my future goal of becoming a Chinese teacher. Here are some details:

My goal is to be a teacher of Chinese to kids in the USA. I have no Chinese ancestry, I started learning a few years ago because my girlfriend, now fiancé, is native Shanghainese. My current level is beginning of hsk 4, so I have a long way to go in learning, but this Fall I’m enrolling in a full time 1 year+ language course at a University in Guangxi (currently I live in Shanghai).

If everything goes as planned I hope to be at a high enough level to teach young learners (elementary or middle school?) in 1-2 years. I’ve also worked as an english teacher in China for that age group for 1.5 years. By the way I’m 25.

Does my goal sound realistic? Are any of you Chinese teachers in US or elsewhere? What’s your job like, and how did you arrive at it?

Thank you so much for reading and commenting!

Tldr: I want to be a Chinese teacher in US, how can I make it happen?
