Greetings to this wonderful little community :) I am a third year Chinese language student and as my home assignment, I had to write a piece about a prominent Russian historical figure (I chose Pyotr the First) . It would be terrific if someone proficient would read through it, pinpoint any grammar mistakes/unnatural word choices/general clunkiness and suggest how they would have paraphrased it. Apologies in advance for (supposedly) terrible Chinese. Without further ado, here's the composition:
我想形容彼得一世, 一位非常有名俄罗斯的国王。人人通常称他为“将朝欧洲的窗口砍穿的人”，因为他的改革、世界观和思想既进步又自由。他的改革包括军事、宗教、经济、文化、商业的改革等等。可是，我觉得他最有影响力的改革就是教育的。他提倡了大众教育的观念、从而在他的保护之下许多学校被建筑了。此外，他的战役扩大了俄罗斯的领土。除了这些事实以外，他的形象也非常有特色。例如说，他的个子为2米，比普通人异常高。他吧胡子当作野蛮的特征，所以为了消灭留胡子的传统而收了留胡子的税。还有，为了惩罚酒徒，他想出了迫使他们带一个极重的奖章，以免坐牢吧这个奖章一秒也不准脱下。他其实是一位历史人物、整个俄罗斯到处都有彼得的纪念碑、献给彼得的博物馆、画。总的来说，彼得一世对俄国历史的影响很深刻、伟大。
