Beginners Advice You Wish You Knew at My Level

I’m just starting out learning Chinese, and the tip of my pinky toe is in the water. I’m very excited, but what to go in the right direction. If you could tell your past self when you first started learning (or me) what you should cover first and get understanding of, what would it be? Because I’m lost with all the different medias. Duolingo, YouTube, Rosetta Stone, where do I start? Do these teach me more native and cultural nuances?
