如何取一个中文名 （group sigh)

I'm looking to adopt a suitable name for my year in China which isn't too dissimilar to my own name.

How does 马凯 sound? A 好网友 of mine who is actually a Chinese Literature major recommended it. I understand that 2 character names are somewhat less common. I originally considered using the name 林妙凯 but this same friend burst out laughing and joked that people would take me for 林妙可's older brother, plus 妙 is too feminine.

I'm a blonde, blue-eyed, white guy so I don't know if going for a really authentic name is practical. I wanted a name that suggests peaceful, sincere characteristics, 不过 马凯 真的像我的英文名。我的朋友笑着说 ：“你在和中文厮杀，后来会凯旋归来”。还有个搞笑的含义：我是苏格兰人，勇敢的心这部电影关于苏格兰的历史里最著名的战士，那么他战斗以后马上凯旋. I...euh...I may be taking this too far...
