Help me understand this passage in my book about resultative complements

I was going to let this go, and assume I'd figure it out later. Or just get around it. But or whatever reason, I want to understand the differences between the examples of resultative complements my textbook is talking about here. I don't see a difference between the sentences that it's pointing out where are there are differences. Help? Photo of the passage in link.
