I'm at the stage where I am more thinking about learning Mandarin than properly in the learning phase and have been thinking quite a bit about this question.
My main reason for wanting top learn Mandarin, as well as just generally being fascinated by such a different way of thinking about language, is that I would very much like to move to Taiwan in the next couple of years.
For this reason I thought it would be a good idea to start out with traditional characters, but it seems to me that although there are plenty of resources for learning traditional characters, most courses and apps I find are geared towards mainland pronunciation.
Practically speaking it seems easier to use the prevalent accent/dialect for learning, but if I am coupling this with traditional characters am I just making this needlessly confusing at such an early stage?
