Learning written Chinese to study ancient Buddhist texts

As the title says, I’m interested in learning how to read in Classical Chinese. I was a Buddhist monk for almost a decade and lately I’ve become very connected to Chinese Chan, which is the forerunner of Japanese Zen.

One of the interesting things about Chinese Buddhism in general is that only about 1/10th of what’s been written in Chinese has been translated. That’s why I’m interested in learning to read the form of Chinese used for Buddhist texts. I’m not sure what it entails, but I will be able to take classes and devote serious time to study. I’m already working with Buddhist Text Translation Society, but so far just as an English proofreader.

What would be the best way to go about learning this form of Chinese? Keep in mind I can devote serious time to this. I’m just trying to figure out the right way to start.
