When to use 枝 vs 支?

Hello everyone, so I have been working through Assimil Chinese with Ease. I'm on lesson 23 right now, and I was going over the lesson with my native speaker Chinese girlfriend, and she said that the 枝 in "来！你抽一枝吧！" should be 支 instead. I tried looking up more information about the difference between the two, and there seemed to be a lot of contradictory information about which one is the right one in this case. Does anyone have any definitive resource or source that regarding which one is correct in this case? I have added the dialogue to the bottom of this post so people can see the sentence in it's full context:

第二十三课 - 奇怪

• 来！你抽一枝吧！
• 谢谢！我不会抽烟！
• 真奇怪！
• 有什么奇怪？
• 你看！这儿不是一包烟吗？
• 这是我老婆的！。。。她抽烟！
