Considering studying Chinese language at a Beijing university for 2-3 years

Hi everyone,

I currently live and work in Korea. I've been studying the language for a number of months here, and have really enjoyed it. I'm making fairly speedy progress as well.

Recently, I've been considering moving to Beijing for the Spring semester, and studying the language full time for between 2 or 3 years. Luckily, I have some money saved up to be able to do this for a while, and if needs be, I can work for 6 months or so between semesters in order to save up more money to study.

I will be 27 years old by the time I move there in Spring 2018. Obviously, this decision is a pretty big one for me to make, and I want to make sure it's the correct thing for me to do.

The reasons I want to do it are because I think I'll love studying the language, university is pretty cheap in China, and it will hopefully help my career prospects in the future (even when I move back to the UK).

Are my expectations realistic? Is it possible to achieve fluency starting at the age of 27? (I know that speaking and writing fluency are two very different things).

Is there any advice or suggestions you could give me?

Thanks!
