I'm beginning to study Mandarin Chinese, and when I hear someone talk really fast in a film, even when there are subtitles available, I can't quite follow. What preoccupies me is that sometimes I can't even hear sounds that I already know about, like 他们 in this sentence: https://youtu.be/tcfTTP8O5NA?t=8
I can't hear the 们 part for the life of me. Is it that when they speak really fast they actually skip sounds, or is it that I'm really not able to distinguish those sounds yet? Did any advanced student have the same problem at first?
