Need Help Understanding Accents

I don’t seem to have a problem when perfect standard Mandarin is spoken, but I have trouble when the speaker has an accent. I assume accents are hard to understand when learning any language. Anyways, does anyone have any methods of getting better at understanding Mandarin an accent?
