Chinese expat living in an English-speaking country.
I was having a bad day. And all I wanted to do was to speak some Chinese in the middle of this workday. Because speaking my native language is like eating comfort food for me. I JUST WANTED TO SPEAK SOME CHINESE with whomever and talk about whatever with absolute no intention on meeting new guys and flirting. So I went on a language exchange app to find someone who wanted to learn Chinese. Yet those ppl I met on the app totally ruined my day and my Chinese comfort meal!!
I posted a moment feed, asking if anyone wanted to chat in Chinese. 3 ppl approached me. One was a British guy who had no interest in speaking Chinese and just wanted to speak English. So I moved on. The second guy was a Chinese guy pretending to be Canadian! Oh yeah, you're Canadian! I spoke more English than you do, dude!
So I moved on again. And this time an American guy asked me "你想做我的朋友吗?我想学中文(do you wanna be my friend? I'd like to learn Chinese)". And I made very clear that I was happy to be his Chinese friend but not the dating kind of friend("可以啊 但不是dating的那一种喔”). How much more clear could I possibly be? Huh? And he agreed to that. Then the second we started audio chat, he started his whole "I miss you" non-sense. So I told him, "I do not miss you at all". And I hung up and unfriended him immediately.
These douchebags totally ruined my experience with a language exchange app. I genuinely wanted my day to turn out better by helping some genuine Chinese learner and giving myself a little Chinese break. F*** the losers who had no respect for women.
Guess i'm not going back on those language exchange apps soon.
TL, DR: my bad day was further worsened by douchebags on a language exchange app who had zero respect for women, language or culture.
