Learning Mandarin + Japanese at the same time. (spoken, no characters)

Would it be possible to learn Japanese at the same time as Chinese?

I started learning Mandarin less than 2ish weeks ago. I haven't focused on writing, only rote memorization of the words by category, (body parts and family members so far). I know this isn't an ideal method, but it's just so much easier to me than learning the characters first. And I do believe I'm making progress. I try to memorize 15-20 words a day.

I want to try this with Japanese as well, and I do think it may be slightly easier at first since they don't have tones and the pronunciation is not way off from English. I know it will still be hard as hell, and I haven't even gotten into forming sentences, but in terms of words..?

Can someone please advice? Feel free to knock me back into reality.

Thanks
