Hi guys,
I'm a long time StarCraft 2 player/fan and have also been learning Mandarin for the last 5 years. Recently I've been trying to combine both these interests by watching SC2 casts in Mandarin. For those of you who don't know, SC2 is a sci-fi themed RTS game played on PC, which pits you against your opponent in 1v1 matches in which you can use a huge variety of different approaches or strategies to try to win. There's also a single player campaign with an excellent story and gameplay, for those who aren't interested in the fast paced competitive multiplayer.
For those already familiar with the game and who are interested in combining it with Chinese, myself and /u/Baneglory have started a Google Docs spreadsheet of useful vocabulary, as well as an up-to-date list of relevant links.
It's still a work in progress so if anyone has any suggestions for vocab or links please do let us know by replying to this thread, leaving a comment on the spreadsheet itself, or messaging one of us directly. One thing I've noticed in particular is that the official unit names often don't match what the casters actually call the units. For example, Zerglings should be 跳虫 but the casters call them 狗. Archons are called 白球 instead of the official name 执政官. For this reason, we can't just open the game and learn the names directly from the UI.
Thanks in advance to anyone who contributes, and I hope it will be helpful for some of you too :)
