Best schools/options for going to China to learn Mandarin

Hi everyone

Had a few questions about mandarin language programs. I’m a Canadian and just about to finish my bachelor degree in the spring, looking to go to China in the fall to study mandarin. What would be my best options for schools? Was thinking of doing 6 month program at least and not sure whether to do regular or intensive studies. Also would like to avoid Shanghai and Beijing ideally.

Also how does the visa situation work for a program like that? Would it be possible to work at all while I’m there.
