A Chinese culture to Keep or Let Go?

I understand some viewers may find my video of a snake set meal upsetting:

【Street Mandarin】Ep.4 Taipei Snake Alley Part I Interviews【 街頭華語】第四集:台北蛇街之訪談

When I told my 8-year old student that the Snake-eating culture is disappearing, partially because some people don't approve the killing of animals.

She said, "I'd try a bite of snake meat. People eat chicken, lamb...why are they upset about eating snakes? It's the same thing."

She has a point.

I am a meat-eater and I really respect vegetarians who choose not to eat meat.

People want to see the authentic aspects of a culture, but sometimes this real aspect of a culture may not be the most pleasant or may not agree with our modern values.

I am still glad I was able to introduce and capture this dying tradition before it is completely gone in Taiwan.

I feel thoughtful about this and want to know what you think. Thank you.
