Why is this sentence incorrect?

My chinese teacher taught me the phrase "养儿防老." I am trying to say "In China people raise children so the children can take care of them when they are old (using the above phrase). This is what I came up with but I'm SURE it's wrong. I just don't know how to correct it :(

在中国中国人养孩子是因为孩子养儿防老
