I’ve finally made the decision to focus on Chinese. I took six years of Spanish in high school. I also learned some Japanese in preparation for an anticipated move to Japan. BUT I am finally deciding to cut those out of my life (until a later time) and focus on Chinese.
This decision is partly inspired by minimalism. I realized that wanting to learn all these languages isn’t a bad thing, but it definitely undercuts the effort I can put into any of them. I’m focusing on Chinese because it’s important to me and I love the language. I still don’t know how far my fluency goals reach, but I really do want to concentrate on one thing at a time.
Has anyone else had similar experiences? Exchanging one language for another just so you can focus?
