Did you study Traditional (繁體字)or Simplified (简体字)characters when you learned Chinese?

This post is mostly for language learners or people who learned Chinese (of any variety) as a second language. I want to know if you learned traditional, simplified, or both, as well as the reason you chose that system. Also, do you still prefer the style you first learned, or would you rather use the opposite style?

I'm looking for personal experience here, as well as positive and constructive discussion. I don't want a political debate on simplified vs traditional Chinese.. I have my own views on the debate, but that's not what this post is about. I personally learned traditional and simplified simultaneously as I studied Chinese languages in China. I like the traditional system more, but I chose to learn the simplified as well because I was living in mainland at the time. To this day though, I generally only write/type traditional Chinese, though I can read both styles.
