A Taiwanese Tale of Two Cities

I've been watching A Taiwanese Tale of Two Cities on Netflix --- definitely not my usual jam, but I'll take the opportunities to listen to Chinese where I can. Has anyone else been watching? I think I hear some accents/dialects when some characters speak Mandarin, but that could be my faulty hearing.

In particular I notice it with Jo's mom, Nian Nian's step mom, and Jo's grandmother.
