不了了之 means "wait and see", but that is not the verbatim translation. Probably it is another phrase from classical Chinese, all I know is, that 之 here is the object "it". But I am totally clueless about the two 了, could it be that it is a play on words as well and the first 了 has a different meaning than the second one? long story short, please explain someone what the very verbatim meaning of this phrase is.
