Memorize & Regurgitate

大家好! I’ll be doing the rest of my post in English because it is currently midnight and I have an oral exam tomorrow for Chinese to study for. I am currently attending a nationally ranked college predatory school in my freshman year and have three school years of moderately intense Chinese language experience under my belt. While studying for my oral exam, I thought about how realistic memorizing a dialogue actually is. The actually assignment reads: “Practice dialogue until fluent: oral quiz with your partner. Strive for good tones and pronunciation. Be able to say all sentences correctly under 1 minute.” How effective is this in the long term and the short term? I am absolutely terrible at memorizing these things and would much rather do impromptu question and answer. If possible, when responding, it’d be nice if you responded with your Chinese language experience because I might mention this to my 老師... Legend has it that talking back to my 老師 will get me smitten…

FYI: I am one of the more advanced ones in my class and tend to lean towards an approach I tend to find more natural “translations, impromptu speaking, reading comprehension, etc.
