My hovercraft is full of eels

When using GTranslate for English to Chinese, it consistently gives the correct translation for this phrase.

Reverse translate the results and the eels turn into squid.

We then tried a bunch of other sentences involving eels and squid and sometimes 鳗鱼 is translated as eel and other times as squid.

We even managed to force mistranslate eels and squid to trout and salmon by asking "Do you serve eels and squid?" from English to Chinese and back again.

Based on other obvious wrong translations, I've encountered, my pet theory is that Google is deliberately introducing errors that a live bilingual person would catch so that Google has copyright protection and a way of seeing if competitors are using their dictionaries.

Any ideas?
