I've started learning (simplified) Chinese a few month ago and have so far managed to learn ~100 words.
I'am however quite dissatisfied with my own learning progress.
This is mainly because I create my own flashcards on Anki using the book Tuttle Learning Chinese Characters as my main source. It takes up far too much time to do that (especially because I include audio samples (from forvo) and additional stroke order images/diagrams (from Wikitonary)).
My learning process is thus as follows: I get a word in English and write down the Pinyin and Character and say the word out loud. After that I can immediately check if my answer was correct.
I really like the incremental learning style that Tuttle offers (meaning that for example I first had to learn 人/亻 and 小 then 尔 before learning 你; or 戈 before 我....) and also that they prioritize simple and common words.
(Oh and I'm learning the proper use of grammar from a Chinese friend of mine so I mostly focus on new Vocabulary on my own.)
Looking through some recommendations from other Posts here I tried out the app ChineseSkill... tbh I was quite disappointed, it felt like I wasn't learning anything at all. Answers were always given in one way or another (so even if I had forgotten something the right answer was always somewhere on the screen. (Alright I knew most words of the first few chapters anyways but that's beside the point.)
TL;DR:
I'm looking for a learning resource (paid or free I don't care as long as it is not a subscription) that:
- manages my learning schedule (like Anki)
- is incremental
- focuses on Vocabulary (though it can also include grammar)
- forces me to actually remember things on my own (so English -> Chinese without any hints in Chinese)
- Includes Audio, Pinyin and Characters
- I want to review already learned Material on the go (so it should probably also available on mobile)
It would be very kind if someone could point me in the right direction.
