Tonal implications of 原来如此?

--> Before anyone says, yes I know it's 2223, I'm referring to how a person might interpret your attitude!

I'm currently reading a book （猫，幽灵和星期天的革命). It's translated from Japanese, so I'm somewhat aware the Chinese isn't inherently 'native'. I find translated books like that easier to read due to the significantly reduced amount of chengyu, etc. Still only two years into learning!

One thing that keeps on coming up is 原来如此 which I quite like, but I'm curious to how this would sound if you were to say this during conversation with a normal person (like a friend).

Is it more formal, more rude, more cold, more distant, or just perfectly usual?
