Question about learning cultural knowledge

Forgive me if this isn't the right sub, but the others don't seem entirely appropriate or as active.

My language journey with Mandarin has begun and I've become increasingly excited about the possibility of actually speaking it.

This excitement has fueled a desire to get to really start learning more about the history and culture of China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, etc. I must admit, I know very little.

I was hoping to find resources (books, sites, Tv/ YouTube series, movies, etc) IN ENGLISH (for now) to start to really piece the cultural and historical tapestry together. I am an avid reader and wouldn't mind some ancient empire stuff as well as late 20th century to present stuff as well.

Any help and advice would be much appreciated.
