Ive been learning for a little over a year and thought id decide on a chinese name. I dont know what the rules are for foreigners (American) giving themselves a chinese name but from what ive gathered it is typically one or two characters for a first name and a single character for a surname. Im not sure if I would rather choose my name to reflect its english pronunciation or if it should reflect meaning. Im sure it sounds silly in chinese but my first name might be 太了(Tyler) going by pronunciation. And my last name going by meaning might be 季风. Is it possible to have four characters in a name? Could I get away with it because im a foreigner?
