Hey guys - wondering if anyone has any advice they'd be willing to share on how to most effectively learn mandarin in my current situation. I'm a 25 yr old ABC who has grown up around mandarin my entire life. I'm conversationally fluent with a minimal accent if I really try but I have the vocabulary of like a 5 year old. So when I say conversationally fluent, I mean that I can speak normally most of the time but in an incredibly rudimentary manner lol. My reading is really poor (probably HSK 2 level) and my writing is abysmal to non-existent. I'm a very quick learner though and mandarin was actually my first language.. Wondering if anyone can give advice on the best way to achieve speaking and reading fluency to the point of being competent at work or in most social situations. I've got about 8-10k I'd be willing to spend on an education in China and would like to get there in less than a year - ideally like 6-8 months.
Would you guys recommend 1 on 1?
Came to the conclusion that a language school might be the best option regardless - though I've also heard private contract tutors might be the way to go for my situation as well..
For language schools, I've been looking at Omeida, Keats, Global Village, Chinese Language Institute, LTL Mandarin School, and Haikou Premier Language School.. Would love to hear any insight from anyone who has attended these schools.. I'm a photographer/designer and would love to spend a few months in Yangshuo capturing the scenery there while learning chinese so kind of leaning towards Omeida atm, but absolutely open to all considerations and any advice some more experienced folks might have.
