Struggling with a particular aspects of directional compliments

Example: 我的女朋友跑進房間來 - My girlfriend ran into the room (I am/was in the room)

How can I further modify the sentence to say something like "My girlfriend ran into the room crying"? Would I add 哭 at the end, use the 一邊 structure, or am I not even on the right track and the base sentence is even wrong?

Additional question - With directional compliments, if the time isn't directly stated how do I make past tense? It might be obvious in that you just add 了 to make it 我的女朋友跑(了)進房間來(了), but I am just not finding past tense sentence examples to illustrate this structure.
