How often do you use the 地 particle (turning a adjective into an adverb) in everyday speech?

I was watching a video on YouTube about the 3 main de particles. The one that I've never really gotten my head around is the 地 one. I know the basic gist is that this is supposed to help turn adjectives into adverbs. It also helps "describe the scene" in a sentence better. A simple sentence would look like this:

她很慢地說. He speaks slowly.

But what I don't get is how necessary is this dynamic? Because can't you just use the other de and say something like:

他說得很慢. He speaks slow.

I mean...don't both sentences essentially say the same thing? Why would I be inclined to use the first type of de at all? I think that is more advanced, but I'm not seeing the huge incentive to keep that at the ready in my language arsenal. Help me understand?
