Study advice?

I've been studying mandarin for about 4-5 months and have a good grasp of the basics so far. I have a 6 month deployment where I can spend a lot of extra time studying. I'm at kind if a crossroads with how to spend this time and was hoping for some advice.

I like Chinese but I'm considering only studying Hanzi (about 10 new a day) and using the 6 months to get a good hold on Korean. I say this because I have a lot of Korean neighbours and in general a strong Korean presence. I'm also planning a short trip to Korea next year sometime. With this, I feel I would get a lot more immediate use with Korean where I could practice with my neighbours and try it in Korea.

I guess I'm struggling because I think both languages are great and useful, I just feel unsure about putting one on hold for the other. Is it a bad thing to put Chinese in a slow holding pattern for 6 months or so?

I like both languages but in the end I'm trying to think which one I will be able to use the most and try out in real life, and it seems korean is that language here. And if I keep learning new hanzi I'll have a good solid base it go back to next year.

Can anyone please offer guidance or advice? Anyone been in this situation before?

Thank you!!

Tl:Dr I have 6mo extra study time. Been studying Chinese, thinking of a temporary switch to Korean due high local Korean population and upcoming trip.
