帮 vs 帮助 , whats the difference and when to use one form versus another?

I see a lot of instances where 帮 is used alone to signify "to help", and it confused me at first because the way I had learned it was 帮助. So I am wondering if there are specific contexts where one form is better suited than the other? Does adding 助 add anything to the meaning?
