Old word for mother

I'm currently watching the TV series "The Rise of the Phoenixes". It is a series about ancient empire times and they use Chinese that was spoken back then. They don't call mothers 妈 or 娘 but instead they say something like "anya". Does anybody know the correct word that is used here?
