Learning Chinese as a written only language (no verbal components)

Do you think that it is possible to learn Chinese without learning any pronunciation?

I was learning Chinese for a few years and struggled to learn proper pronunciation the whole time. I just can't get around the correct tones, and just trying to do so made the whole process a chore.

Since I don't plan on talking or listening to anyone, I would mostly communicate by internet in written form, and read books and stuff, I thought that I could focus on just that. And afterwards if I felt comfortable I could introduce pronunciation by watching movies subtitled in Chinese...

What are your thoughts on that?
