I just did a quick practice HSK 6 (H61001) test and got 94%. It only took me about half the allotted time to complete the reading and writing parts.
More info: I was born in China and completed schooling up to Grade 8 before immigrating to Canada. I'm in the middle of creating a HSK 6 video course, so I decided to take the actual test myself (computer-based test, on Sep 16) and see what I can learn in the process.
Comparison with IELTS: I think the HSK 6 exam is somewhat easier than the IELTS (English test). I just sat the IELTS on July 21 and got 8.5 out of 9 (94%). Only 7% of native English speakers get scores higher than 8. I achieved 8.5 largely because I spent a long time (over a month) to prepare for it. However, as a native speaker with no prior preparation, I tried the HSK 6 practice exam and got about the same score. So I think HSK 6 is easier than the IELTS.
