When I make a declarative statement (such as “Wo shi Meiguoren”) that ends on a rising tone, my English instincts kick in and tell me I’m speaking this as if asking a question. Is this something I have to get over? I understand that it ends on a rising tone, but it just makes me uncomfortable since I’m so used to English.
