谈恋爱的谈

What's the meaning of 谈 in 谈恋爱？i'm asking because I came across it's use in isolated form like in phrases such as "我们已经谈了五个月了" "谈到了结婚" but the dictionary (Pleco) doesn't say that 谈 means "to be in love"... I would like to clarify this point thanks
