Confused about this sample sentence in my textbook. Shouldn't it require a repeat of the verb since it indicates time duration?

Here is the sentence from my textbook. It's from a dialogue:

每天練習三個半小時的英文,還看兩個小時電視.

What I've been learning in this chapter of my textbook (Integrated Chinese) is that if you are making a sentence about time duration, and you have a verb that takes an object (練習 has a verb followed by a noun/object) the verb then has to be repeated. So shouldn't the sentence be something along the lines of:

每天練習三個半小時練的英文, 還看兩個小時電視.

Because isn't 練習 a "separable verb"? I don't get it though.
